The course
This seven-session course is for complete beginners and people who have joined an introductory workshop. You will become familiar with clay, tools and studio safety, then practise handbuilding, wheel throwing, trimming and glazing. Each technique takes repetition, so the focus is on understanding the movement, noticing common problems and knowing what to practise next.
Practise wedging, checking moisture and addressing air pockets or uneven clay before starting.
Work with pinching and coiling before practising centering, opening and pulling on an electric wheel.
Allow pieces to firm up between stages, then practise trimming, cleaning the foot and applying glaze before firing.
